Housing Resilience

Brooklyn, NY
with Ronnette Riley, Architect

In 2015, we captained efforts to restore a series of New York City public housing complexes in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. These complexes, set on the low-lying Atlantic coast of Queens & Brooklyn had been badly affected by storm surge in this 100-year storm and many of them lost power, heat, water and sanitary sewers for weeks. Besides restoring what had been destroyed, we were charged with developing surgical improvements to the complexes that would increase their resilience in future storms, requiring a comprehensive understanding of what failed in each development and why.
